The Cocktail Pianist

7pm Saturday 28th July

The Cocktail Pianist is a play by a Mike Hatchard about a pianist for whom things have gone a little wrong. The plot is about Bernard Halfpen, who spends his life as a jobbing musician tinkling the ivories at an hotel. Mike narrates the ups and downs and final triumph of Bernard’s life, often amusing but always tender, whilst still kowtowing to the paying customers. Evocative and powerful ‘The Cocktail Pianist’ premiered at the Brighton Festival in 2017 to rave reviews. Mike is preparing it for the Edinburgh Festival. Don’t miss this! PS: Some people think this is autobiographical – it isn’t, it’s very good musical play-writing.
